Playshop
alumni talk about their first playshop
It's
Our Turn to Play! gave me the chance to be the kid I never
was and now I know I can always be!
--Terrie Payne, M.A.A.T., art therapist
I
went to the playshop very apprehensive and was surprised and
delighted at how much fun I had learning to play again.
--Peggy Lang, social worker
The
playshop was absolutely fantastic. I'm on call tonight and
have a totally different outlook!
--Brian Mudry, D.O., Second Year Family Practice Resident
Cathy
Raphael's playshop was a liberating experience! After a year
of transitions and serious program planning, it was great
to get together as a staff and have some real fun. The activities
were designed to explore ways of communicating with one another
in a manner that was effective and respectful.
--Rosa R. Davis, A.C.S.W., Executive Director, P.O.W.E.R.
In
medical training, students are programmed to "do things
right." The process tends to bury our other lighter,
creative side. It's Our Turn to Play! allowed us, as
a group, to see the playful side of our colleagues and appreciate
each other. We were still teasing each other in a good-natured
way, days after the training.
--Michael Madonia, M.S.W., Behavior Science Coordinator, Family
Practice Residency, Department of Medicine
Being
a member of a nonprofit, working board is very stressful and
often demanding assignment. Add to that a day-long strategic
planning session, and you can understand why a program like
Cathy Raphael's It's Our Turn to Play! is extremely
valuable. Using it as an opening exercise allowed everyone
to loosen up, start the morning with laughter, and feel more
comfortable with each other as they began the task of tackling
some difficult organizational issues.
--The Three Rivers Community Fund, Pittsburgh, PA
I
am impressed with your skill and sensitivity, not to mention
energy. Everyone had a great time. I am happy to recommend
you to similar groups; any residency program would do well
to have at least one playshop.
--Marion Block, M.D., Chairperson, Department of Family Medicine
and Program Director, Family Practice Residency, Pittsburgh,
PA
